Keywarrior chip on starter-kit

Post by mhserrano »

Hello people,

Is there any problem if i put a Keywarrior 16 chip (40 pin PDIP) on the socket of a IOwarrior 40 starter kit?

Can i use Keywarrior on these way, or there are any problems?

Thanks in advance,

If you only want to use USB there is no problem.

Yes, i just want to use USB.

Another question Guido: If i want to use the external EEPROM to program Master Translation Tables to KW16-Flex, i will be able to make this on the PCB of the starter-kit modified?

If i use just the starter-kit with KW-16 chip inserted i can wire the keyboard matrix (to starter kit pins) and start to "play" the keyboard, or is not so simple?

Thanks in adance,

A KeyWarrior Flex needs the EEPROM, otherwise it does not work at all.

Ok, thanks a lot.

There is any chip from KeyWarrior 16 family that don´t need EEPROM?

No standard part. Factory programmed key tables are only available for custom chips.

Hello,

I have received my KW16 Flex chip + 24C02 EEpPROM and have inserted the chip on the IOW40 starter kit and fitted well. I have soldered the EEPROM as well, making the circuitry like the plan presented on KW16 datasheet.

But it seems that i ave a problem because i cant download any keyboard table into EEPROM. On the utility program i can select the download option but it gives me the message: "Download Failed!"

It seems to be a EEPROM problem, because KW16 is recognized well by windows xp.

Do you have some troubleshooting that i can make to see what is going wrong with EEPROM?

Thanks,

MS

First check the connections. Make sure the address pins of the 24C02 are pulled down and if there is a Write Enable pin it has to be pulled down too.

Thanks Guido,

Sorry for these newbie question but what i must do to pull down those pins? In fact the instructions for KW16 says that we must pull down pins A0, A1 and A2. What i must do?

Where i can found that write enable pin?

Thanks for your help, i think i´m close to have it work well :)

pulling down = pulling to a logic low level = connect to ground

The only unused pin on the 24C02 is /WE on some variants of the chip.

Ok, it seems i´ve do that alright. Those pins (adress pins are already pulled down).

I´m using a condensator of 100nF between pin number 4 and Vcc. This is correct?

Thanks

100nF between pins 4 & 8 is correct. Placed direct at the chip, no wires to the other end of the board.

Other possible problems are reversing the lines or forgetting the pull up resistor on SCL.

Still dont work!

I´ve added the resistors: 9,8K is what i have in SCL line, between pin 6 from EEPROM and Y15 of KW16.

I checked with a multimeter some tension values on EEPROM pins when the starter kit connected to USB. Pins number 8 and 5 are with 5 volts. All the others 0 volts.

KW windows tool gives the same message: download failed!

Is it possible EEPROM is damaged?

Thanks

Not quite what the application circuit is showing...

Hello,

But we must put a pull-up resistor of 10K on these line? Or this resistor is installed on the starter-kit already?

Thanks
