24 A-15 Button Matrix

Post by stickMaker »

Guido,
I have it set up so X1 goes to 4 buttons, after button is diode, then to Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4. X1 jumps from button to button, the first button in line registers fine, but the three following buttons register as two buttons when pressed. The X2, X3, X4 groupings work fine. Any touhgts on what is causing the bleed thru.

18 inch from module to buttons, 18 inch from buttons to diodes, 1 inch from diode to module, other button groups are twice as far with no problems.

Possibly the lines which cause problems have a higher electrical capacity. It sounds pretty much like a line length problem. The recommended length is around 30cm.

Did you use ribbon cable? That can cause more problems than individual wires.

I,ve taken a 25 pin printer cable and canablized it. This particular grouping of buttons is using the larger guage wires in the bundle. Are you saying that the magnetic field created by the larger guage wires might be the bleed thru issue?

The capacitor effect of the parallel running wires is the problem. Maybe the wires that cause the problem are packed closer to each other than those that work.
